Start where you are – no experience needed.

This series of classes is an evidence based curriculum to help people recover from trauma – specifically PTSD. It serves to restore us to our original self – the sacred soul that is our own truth.

In our lives, we all experience some traumas – large and small. Our body records these traumas and holds them to protect us and prevent events like this from happening again. Our resilience, our strength, created these tools, and kept us safe and strong. We honor these tools – we grew, changed, flourished and got to where we are now with their help. And now they don’t seem to be working anymore. The tools that protected us no longer serve who we are becoming. Kundalini Yoga can help us continue to flourish in the light of who we are now and who we are becoming – strong, radiant, healthy and whole.

Kundalini Yoga is perfectly suited to facilitate the release of the stuck patterns the trauma has set in the body, mind and spirit. Using breath, rhythm, movement, sound and meditation it activates the subtlety of your own inner resources, awakening us to the wholeness of who we are. It uses the gifts of all your life experiences to facilitate your continued growth in consciousness.

Join us for this 8 session yoga series to address the patterns of trauma in your life.

What to expect:

· These classes include breath, yoga, movement, meditation and chanting.

· There will be some time for optional supportive sharing.

· These classes are not a substitute for therapeutic interventions for trauma nor are they built to induce a cathartic or dramatic release of emotions.

· Kundalini Yoga is a safe and stable practice that awakens self-awareness at a pace that matches your own resilience. It gives the vitality and capacity to handle the transformation it brings into your life.

· Please consider bringing someone to the classes with you - someone who is a support person to you in your life. They need no prior experience with yoga. It is helpful for you and for them as you go through these challenging times. There will be practices to do at home between classes – together you can support each other in practicing the tools we learn.

· A little goes a long way – listen to your body and go at your own pace

· This course is open to people of all genders.

Sliding scale $80-$160 for 8 sessions.

· Pay what you feel is right for you. If this cost is prohibitive, please contact me to make other arrangements. No student will be turned away because of cost. Cash, checks or credit cards accepted.

· Please register for the entire course. This will create a safe and stable environment for all. If you are unable to pay for the entire course at once, please contact me to create a payment plan.

How to register: I would like to talk with each of you before you register to be sure the class is appropriate for where you are in your healing process. Please contact me to set up a time. Reply to this email or call 773.989.7562

Winter Solstice with 3HO is such a powerful event.  We gather as Kundalini Yogis and family for a week in the warmth and sun of Florida to meditate, do sadhana and White Tantric Yoga and hang out together.  This is my spiritual home.  I would love to share it with you.

My sister business - Urban Yoga Chicago (I'm a co-founder and president) is doing a raffle to kick start our first Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training program to start in September of next year.  In the raffle is a free ticket to Winter Solstice - wow!  Its valued at $750!  I'm also adding a one hour massage to the raffle and there are other great services/gifts included too.

Just go to www.urbanyogachicago.com/blog for details.

Zone Out for Creativity

Wow, isn't this a powerful Fall?  Yes, most years our schedules get really packed in the fall; back to school, work accelerates, no more luxurious days of summer.  But this year everyone seems to be juggling more than usual. Just when we thought we were at capacity - one more thing is put on our plates.  Mostly, this is great. We are expanding ourselves and our capacities.  We are giving more back to the world and oftentimes, creating something that didn't exist before.  We are in a time of creative possibility.  Go us!

In this time of giving to others, remember to "put your mask on first" as the airplane safety talks remind us.  To give so much, to expand and create, our minds and our nervous systems need a pause. We need that time to allow the mind to wander aimlessly or "zone out". This down time is actually quite productive - its a fertile time for new ideas to come in, for solutions we hadn't seen to emerge and for integration of everything that is happening.  Not only is this good for our minds, but for our nervous systems, too.  The intense pace of our current lives keeps our sympathetic nervous system (commonly referred to as the fight or flight system) active and on alert.  Can you put your cell phone down for an hour?  Its hard, isn't it.  Our para-sympathetic nervous system (relaxation system) could use some air time, too, allowing the body to rest and recover.  Ideally, we attune through both of these systems during the course of a day - in and out of intense focus - to exercise the balancing mechanisms of our nervous system.

Here's something to help.  After a period of time at the computer, or of intense focus on a task, take a few minutes and look out at nature or further out into the the horizon.  If nature or a horizon isn't visually available, conjure up an image in your mind of these things. Then go back to your work.  Do this several times a day and see how your capacity expands.  You can do more calmly and with energy.  Enjoy this expansive time!  We're excited to see what you create!
